Swansfield News 5.3.24

Good Afternoon Swansfield,

I hope this communication finds you well. The focus of my message this week is around the spring concert. Thank you to all the families that attended the concert, it was standing room only. I have been an employee of HCPSS for 21 years and I have worked in many different schools as a teacher and administrator, and I must say that our music department is second to none. The concert on Wednesday evening at Wilde Lake HS demonstrated their excellence.

Students had the crowd in awe by the end of the evening. At the elementary level you don’t often see a dance team to go along with the chorus performance. The best part is that our students choreographed the entire routine. Students in the band and orchestra sounded like they were in middle or high school. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as the staff did!

Have a great weekend! ~ Anthony J Esposito, Principal

Career Day - Thank you!

Thank you to all the community members who joined us last Friday (4/26) for Career Day! The event was a big success and we had more than 30 careers represented. The students were engaged and enthusiastic. We greatly appreciate our presenters taking the time to share with students. Attached is a thank you note which lists everyone who attended and highlights a few local small businesses that donated their time.

MCAP Dates

The Maryland State Department of Education is conducting a spring student assessment as one of several strategies to identify how students are performing academically. The results will help educators better understand student needs.  These results never stand alone in assessing student growth, and will be used in combination with other assessments and class work to gauge overall student performance.

MCAP is the overarching term used for all state assessments. MSDE will administer assessments in the Spring for English Language Arts/Literacy & Mathematics. Here are the dates for our SES Students

Grade 3:

  • Math - May 24, 28, 29, 30 (9:00 - 10:00)

Grade 4:

  • ELA - May 9, 10, 13, 15 (9:00 - 10:30)
  • Math -  May 20, 21, 22, 23 (9:00 - 10:00)

Grade 5:

  • Math - May 20, 21, 22, 23 (10:00 - 11:00)

It is important that students arrive at school on time each testing day.  Please avoid scheduling vacations or appointments on testing days.

Please contact Mrs. Madden (Courtney_Madden@hcpss.org) or Mr. Carter (Howard_Carter@hcpss.org) with any questions about the MCAP assessment.
