Additional Materials Distribution

As we shared last week, we will be distributing additional instructional materials to all students. The pick up will take place in the bus loop following the schedule below.

In an effort to make this as easy as possible for our families, you can arrange in advance to have another family pick up your materials for you. Parents/Guardians coming to school, please plan to pick up materials only for your family and for those families you have pre-arranged to help.

For distribution to run as quickly and smoothly as possible, we are asking all parents picking up materials to use this document to list the names and grades of students for whom you are picking up materials.  If you do not have access to a printer, or it is easier, please create your own document with the same information.

Tuesday, October 6

  • 4:30pm-5:30pm Last Names A-C
  • 5:30pm-6:30pm Last Names D-J

Wednesday, October 7

  • 4:30pm-5:30pm Last Names K-P
  • 5:30pm-6:30pm Last Names R-Z

Questions/Concerns Regarding Canvas, Related Arts, Asynchronous Assignments & More

As we shared last week, we are working as a school to support families with answers to questions and concerns regarding different aspects of virtual learning.  Please see Virtual Learning Questions/Concerns & Responses for answers to some frequently asked questions.

As noted in the document, we are happy to share that we will now provide parents direct links to all Related Arts assignments each week.  A link to this live document is included and will also be shared by ELA teachers in Monday’s Announcement.

MAP Testing

On Wednesday, October 7 and 14, students in grades 2-8 will take the Measured Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. The data from the MAP assessment will help schools and teachers measure where your child is starting the year academically. The HCPSS intends to also give the assessment in winter and spring to measure how your child’s learning is progressing throughout the year. The MAP test does not affect grades and the difficulty adjusts depending on how your child responds. It is normal for students to only answer about half the questions correctly.  To learn more about the MAP assessment, please visit HERE.

The Reading test will be offered on October 7 at 9am and 1pm.  The Math test will be offered on October 14 at 9am and 1pm.  Students may choose to attend either the morning or afternoon session. If your child is unable to attend, makeup testing will be offered during asynchronous learning times. Teachers will share Google Meet information and your student’s testing group as we get closer to the October 7th date.

Due to testing, HCPSS is making the following adjustments to asynchronous assignments for the weeks of October 7 and 14:

  • No Dreambox assignments will be assigned on Wednesday
  • No Lexia Core5 assignments will be assigned on Wednesday
  • No mathematics task will be assigned on Wednesday
  • No changes will be made for related arts and science asynchronous assignments.

World Day of Bullying Prevention

This coming Monday, October 5, is World Day of Bullying Prevention. All students are invited to wear blue to show everyone that we stand up to bullying.  #BlueUp

Swansfield Book Drive

Our school is collecting donations of gently used children’s books to help foster the love of reading for Swansfield students. Books should be suitable for children ages 4-12 and can include picture books, levelled readers, story books and chapter books. Please drop off your donations between October 5 and October 19 at either of two locations: in the school vestibule or in the Pointer’s Run community at 6440 Mellow Wine Way. Books may also be dropped off during the material distribution windows next week, October 6 and October 7.  Thank you in advance for your donations!
