Math Month Activities

Swansfield students are being challenged with different activities during April to discover why loving math adds up to a win!

Problem of the Week
Each week a short, real life situation is read on the announcements. Your child has the situation and 3 problems in front of him/her while it is read. Students choose one or all of the problems to solve and then turn it in. On Friday, one winner from each grade is announced to choose a prize for their correct submission!

The week of April 3 resulted in the following winners:
Kindergarten: Bryson Young
First: Jonathan Duenas
Second: Nathan Koram
Third: Brandon Rivera-Cacerez
Fourth: Sarah KC
Fifth: Jayden Edmonds

You can check out our first problem at bedtimemath.org - Today's Fun Math - April 16

Homework Challenge Mats
On Tuesday, April 18, a Homework Mat was sent home with your child. These mats are grade specific and can be accessed through the school website HERE. Please complete the mat with your child over the next couple of weeks and return it to school with your child's full name and your signature by May 5. Each child will receive a certificate of completion and one name will be chosen at each grade level to receive a math prize.

Math Spirit Week
Next week we are going to ring out the month of April with a spirit week. Help us celebrate by dressing along with the theme of each day! We will announce classes and grades that are participating the most. Please do not go out to buy any items for the week. Be creative and use what you have or can make.
Monday, April 24 - Wear a shirt with numbers or about math to show that you love math
Tuesday, April 25 - Wear a funky patterned outfit or socks because we use patterns in math
Wednesday, April 26 - Wear a college shirt to show you love and will continue learning math
Thursday, April 27  - Wear something you can count...stripes, animals, polka dots, etc...
Friday, April 28 - Wear your favorite team jersey/shirt to show that math is all about team work and collaboration

We look forward to seeing your Math Enthusiasm!
