I hope this communication finds you well. We’ve had an amazing first two weeks of the school year and students have settled into the new routines.
Next week we will add homework to the routine for students in grades 1 - 5. Homework in each grade level will look different, but please know that your child will have weekly homework assignments. More information will be shared by your child’s teacher in their weekly communication.
If you are looking for something to do this evening, I strongly encourage attending the PTA’s Back to School Picnic. Bring dinner for the family and connect with other SES families. Also, our PTA will host their first meeting of the school year next Wednesday evening. They will offer an in-person & virtual option for all families.

BSAP Fall 2024 Saturday Math Academy Registration, Sept. 28
The HCPSS Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP) Saturday Math Academy will offer an in-person enrichment program this fall for any students in grades 3-12 in all levels of math, based on course availability. Registration will take place online Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9:00 a.m. until capacity is reached. Class space is limited.
Heritage Months
This school year, we are dedicated to recognizing and honoring the rich tapestry of cultures within our amazing school community. For each heritage month, we'll be showcasing information, artifacts, and pictures that represent different cultures in the lobby across from the main office.
We'd love your help with two things! Firstly, if you have any special items or artifacts related to specific heritage months, we'd be thrilled to include them in our display. Secondly, when your schedule permits, please drop by to learn more about the fabulous cultures that make our school community unique. Our monthly PTA meetings, Title 1 Family Nights, picking up for early dismissal, or other school events provide awesome opportunities for you to check out our display.
Our display for Hispanic Heritage Month is already up and ready to view! Here is some additional information about Hispanic Heritage Month:
Hispanic Heritage Month started as a week-long observation of the contributions of Hispanic people in 1968 under Lyndon B. Johnson. It was expanded to a month-long celebration by Ronald Reagan in 1988. Because several Latin American countries celebrate their independence on September 15, HHM starts on this day and runs through October 15. Hispanic is a term that, generally, means of or relating to Spain or other Spanish speaking countries, especially Latin America. People who consider themselves Hispanic or Latino are descended from Puerto Rico, Central or South America, the Caribbean, or other Spanish cultures. According to the 2020 census Hispanics make up 18.7 percent of the US population.

FARMS Forms
Many HCPSS families are eligible to participate in the Free and Reduced Price Meals (FARMs) program, which provides children with a wide range of benefits including free or discounted college tuition, testing and application fees, academic and athletic program fees and many others in addition to free or discounted meals.
In addition, SES is a Title I school; this means we receive extra funds to support learning. PLEASE complete the FARMS application. We use these funds for additional staff, family programming, student activities and much more. Our Title I status is based on the percentage of families who qualify for FARMS.
Families are urged to check their eligibility and complete a FARMs application as soon as possible. Families must submit a new application every school year.
