New Information

Success Factor Focus - Kindness!

Our first success factor, KINDNESS, lays the foundation for our Swansfield community. Throughout the months of September and October, our staff and students will continue to learn about and practice kindness regularly.  We will be highlighting when students are friendly to others, when they show appreciation, when they offer help to others and when they reach out to those in need.

We would love for this focus to extend beyond the school day.  Instead of asking your child, “How was your day?” Try asking specific questions such as:

  • Where did you see kindness today?
  • What did you do to spread kindness to your classmates today?
  • What did you do to spread kindness to a teacher today?

When you are out in the community and witness acts of kindness, point them out!

Stop Bullying

The Howard County Public School System is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all students. Preventing bullying is an important part of this goal and HCPSS recently launched a new bullying reporting tool that allows students, staff and family members to easily and confidentially report incidents of bullying.  If you or your child is being bullied, please refer to the Student & Parent Handbook and be sure to complete our new reporting form.

History of Racial Justice Struggle in Education Workshop

Join staff from Swansfield and HCPSS for a multi-session workshop. The History of Racial Justice Struggle in Education will explore the long journey for educational justice initiated by Black, Indigenous, Chicanx and Latinx communities.

This workshop will take place over the course of four sessions - September 30, October 14, October 28, and November 11, 2021 from 5-7pm ET. The first three sessions will be virtual, with the last session currently planned as an in-person strategy meeting.

This workshop will be facilitated by Manuel Criollo, the program director for the University of New Mexico Peace and Justice Studies Minor/Certificate Program. You can find more information and register for this workshop here
