Swansfield News 4.19.24

Good Afternoon Swansfield,

Last night we held our Grade 5 Title I Family Night with a focus on the transition to middle school. Over 160 people were in attendance. All three of our feeder middle schools were here at SES. Each middle school team met with our families to share information about 6th grade and each middle school had a student panel. Our 5th graders were able to ask the members of the student panel burning questions they had about 6th grade. Thank you for our Title I Point of Contact, Cari Haas, and our 5th grade team for organizing an amazing evening.

We look forward to seeing our families next week for the quarter 3 awards assemblies. Please check out the schedule below.

Have a great weekend! ~ Anthony J Esposito, Principal

MCAP Dates

The Maryland State Department of Education is conducting a spring student assessment as one of several strategies to identify how students are performing academically. The results will help educators better understand student needs.  These results never stand alone in assessing student growth, and will be used in combination with other assessments and class work to gauge overall student performance.

MCAP is the overarching term used for all state assessments. MSDE will administer assessments in the Spring for English Language Arts/Literacy & Mathematics. Here are the dates for our SES students

Grade 3:

  • ELA - April 29, April 30, May 1, May 2 (9:00 - 10:30)
  • Math - May 24, 28, 29, 30 (9:00 - 10:00)

Grade 4:

  • ELA - May 9, 10, 13, 15 (9:00 - 10:30)

  • Math - May 20, 21, 22, 23 (10:00 - 11:00)

It is important that students arrive at school on time each testing day.  Please avoid scheduling vacations or appointments on testing days.

Please contact Mrs. Madden (Courtney_Madden@hcpss.org) or Mr. Carter (Howard_Carter@hcpss.org) with any questions about the MCAP assessment.

Lost and Found

Parents/Guardians there are several personal items that your students have left behind. You are welcome to sign in at the main office anytime and take a look in the cafe’ during school hours.  All lost and found items will be available in the main hallway during each Awards Day, please check the racks for your child's items. All unclaimed items will be donated April 30th.

Outdoor Lunch Update

We wanted to inform you about a recent update regarding outdoor dining at Swansfield. Per a memo from HCPSS central office, outdoor dining will unfortunately no longer be provided at any elementary school.

This decision was made due to several factors, primarily stemming from supervision and staffing challenges. We understand that outdoor dining has been a convenient and enjoyable option for many students. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please do not hesitate to reach out to the administrative team.
